Summer of Sequel

In a summer of trilogies, here's a sequel almost as good and as incredibly dumb as the first. The stare's a pretty big reason I'm into it, and they use it for the capper joke, so I'm psyched about that. See the original, if you haven't.

Doc Pomus, Songwriter

I just listened to a radio show on NPR about songwriter Doc Pomus, who wrote, among other things, "Save the Last Dance for Me." The song was made twice as interesting apon the revelation that he was crippled by polio at a young age. It was pretty interesting, and is apparently all in the book Lonely Avenue: The Unlikely Life and Times of Doc Pomus and you should probably check it out. Here's another song he penned.

Oh, Canada!

In honor of a small holiday in Canada I'll be taking this weekend, here's one of my favorites of the Montreal music scene which is pretty happening actually, with the likes of Arcade Fire and the such. This is off the new Stars album In Our Bedroom After The War.

...At A Party

It may be old news, but seeing as I was blog-less when it first brought me so much joy, I find myself needing to share and ensure everyone who wants to can enjoy the stirring untold history of our founding father, George Washington.

Siren

Memories fade and are replaced with high rise hotels as the nostalgic boardwalk of Coney Island prepares for what may be the final Village Voice sponsored Siren Music Festival. The rusty old rides, rich with character and history are set to go into the hellish little cuccoon of construction and come out the fabulous butterfly of indoor air conditioned family fun. Like much of Manhattan, Brooklyn and even Queens, Coney Island will become taller, glassier, and whiter within the coming year. A small sampling of what is hopefully not the last line up follows.

Once

Quite simple and staightfoward, as all the best emotions are, Once tells the story of two songwriters through the songs they write, as only a cast and crew of musicians could.
